India has finished its one-month moratorium on importing rough diamonds, according to the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). The one month “breather” period sbegun on November 25 last year to allow the Indian industry to regroup and gather information on how best to deal with the global credit crisis.
Japan’s polished diamond imports fell 26 percent to $55.56 million in November 2008, according to data compiled by The JClub from the country’s Customs Bureau and Ministry of Finance. By volume, imports declined 38.7 percent to 121,825 carats.
