India Resumes Rough Diamond Imports.

India has finished its one-month moratorium on importing rough diamonds, according to the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). The one month “breather” period sbegun on November 25 last year to allow the Indian industry to regroup and gather information on how best to deal with the global credit crisis.

Japan’s Polished Diamond Imports Down by 26% in Nov.

Japan’s polished diamond imports fell 26 percent to $55.56 million in November 2008, according to data compiled by The JClub from the country’s Customs Bureau and Ministry of Finance. By volume, imports declined 38.7 percent to 121,825 carats.

WFDB President Calls on International Diamond Industry to Create a Single, Body for Diamonds

Avi Paz, President of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) called on the key players operating in the global diamond and jewellery business to come together and act in unison in an effort to launch a single body dedicated to advancing consumer confidence in diamonds as well as the promotion and marketing of diamonds to the international jewellery consumer markets.

Rockwell Announces Withdrawal of Pala Bid

Alrosa Cuts Rough Diamond Supply

The Critical Role of Antwerp Diamond Sector

A recently research project conducted by the the Catholic University of Louvain (KUL) has demonstrated unmistakably the critical function played by Antwerp’s diamond segment in the economies of Belgium, the province of Flanders and the region of Antwerp. The results of the study project were released during a press seminar held in Antwerp last week.

GJEPC Appeals to Reduce the Rough Supply
