DiaLab Pty Limited is the first Forensic Diamond Laboratory in South Africa to focus on Carbon Fingerprinting of Diamonds in their certification. They officially opened in September this year and the word already has its place that they are “too strict” or lets us rephrase, “too correct” in their grading of Diamonds.
With a full scientific approach to the diamond and gem industry they also focus on R & D (Research and Development.) for future diamond explorations and technology. DiaLab forms part of a conglomerate Dae-Shin Hong Kong and The CozDia Rhombus Internation Limited group.
The Chairman of the Board “Baron” Baretzky said that the market is ready for changes and the programs will follow strictly the CIBJO rules to make the market more transparent by building consumer trust. With the Diamond industry in South Africa being in deep trouble it comes at the right time. South Africa is Hosting the FIFA world tournament next year and it is expected that approximately 40 million tourists will visit South Africa over the next year. With this predicted growth the market is certainly to be opened and expansion is necessary to avoid the exploitation of both the industry and the consumer.
DiaLab is the first Laboratory to include a Carbon Fingerprint on their certification that guarantees that the consumer is ultimately buying a Diamond and not a synthetic. DiaLab follows strictly the IDC grading rules and also implement the original optic measuring system for clarity grading. Each specimen is handled with extra care and the ultimate scientific instruments are used to scan, test and scrutinize each diamond.
Their prices are so competitive that it would make the competitors sit on the bench and additionally you have a 40 minutes lead time for diamonds brought in on a one to one basis for certifications. An excellent service for dealers and sales to tourists. There is at present no other Laboratory that can do this on volume. DiaLab is also implementing a full color grading scale that would be in effect from Feb 2010 whereas you will be able to grade all color diamonds up to 250ct in sizes.
The Parameters of the grading system will be available on their website to be launched late January 2010. For further information contact DiaLab on info@dialab.co.za.
