Falling rough prices and large bank credits has sparked a fear in the diamond industry. Many banks in Antwerp is now recalling some clients credits whilst some shocking discoveries are made.
Since a lot of diamond dealers worked and an Appro system they are unable to repay the outstanding credits and this is developing into a Diamond Depression of its own.
Overpriced Rough and the price driven increases has increases diamonds with more than 22% in the last 10 month on top of the natural annual increases. Despite a steady sales period in Antwerp there is still fear that the worst is to come. Most dealers in Antwerp has taken and early holiday and decided to spend their worries going on holiday for two month.
It is predicted that there would be a works shortage during the re-opening of the season next year. For some the future looks very dim however for others who can afford to buy now the future might be very bright. This we will have to see in the near future. Many retail outlets is suffering the present market conditions that has not yet become to full impact.
